Mountain House: A Case Study of Bay Area Exurbia
Welcome
Thank you for your interest in participating in this study regarding your community! You are invited to participate in a research study on Mountain House and the reasons as to why this community is growing as fast as it is. Particularly, this research study will focus on the demographic factors, pushes, and pulls that bring this community together as a unique form of urban growth in the San Joaquin Valley. You will be asked to participate in a thirty minute semi-structured interview where you will be asked a series of questions regarding your life in Mountain House and the decisions you made that lead you to the community. For this study, between five and ten participants will be selected. Each person signing up to the study will be assigned a number and will be randomly selected for participation. You may be invited to take part in a follow-up interview that will last approximately thirty minutes.

In order to participate in this study, you must have permanent residence inside the community of Mountain House, California within the ZIP Code 95391.

PRIVACY: To express your interest in this study, you will answer questions an initial contact form that will ask for various pieces of personally identifiable information.
The first three fields, first name, last name, email, and phone number, will only be used for contact purposes. This data will not be a part of analysis of interviews and will not be published in any paper. Your name, and any other names mentioned in the interview, will be replaced with pseudonyms, which will be used in discussion and in final written/reported results of this study.
The next six fields, Date Moved to Mountain House, Community Lived Prior to Mountain House, Job / Occupation, Month and Date of Birth, Race/Ethnicity, Hispanic/Latino Descent, are to be collected to connect your responses/stories to greater data trends available with publicly available information (HMDA data) regarding migration patterns regarding Mountain House. This data can also help drive more specific questions for the semi-structured interview format. When you are interviewed, the interviewer will have a sheet to take notes on which will contain information from the initial contact form which will altered or kept the same as described below:
"Date Moved to Mountain House (MM/YYYY)" will be generalized in the paper/analysis to portions of a year, i.e. early 2006, summer 2006, late 2006
"Community lived prior to Mountain House" will be generalized in the paper/analysis to a city, i.e. You mentioned you once lived in South of Market, San Francisco. It will be generalized to say you are a subject who once lived in San Francisco.
"Job / Occupation" will be generalized in the paper/analysis to industry / general profession instead of titles or other specific information.
"Month and Date of Birth" will be generalized for the paper/analysis to general decade-age ranges, i.e. mid-20s, mid 30s.
"Race/Ethnicity" and "Are you of Hispanic or Latino descent?" will remain intact to the definitions as used in the 2020 Census across to the paper/analysis.
This simplified, generalized information will be used in the study paper to describe trends and interviewees.
The original, unprocessed personally identifiable information in this form will be completely deleted upon completion of the all the interviews. If you are not selected for an interview, your information entered in this form will be deleted upon the final selection of the ten participants for this study.
Tapes/recordings of the interviews will be deleted upon completion of the paper resulting from this study, however interview transcripts and interview forms (with their information generalized as described above for analysis) will be retained for archive indefinitely on an offline, encrypted storage medium.
Your data entered in the "initial contact form" will be stored on a Google Form and Google Sheet on an account managed by Stanford University. Privacy policies for Google are available at https://policies.google.com/. When you sign up for an interview, if you are selected for participation in the study, you will provide your name and email to the Calendly service to sign up for a slot for an interview. The privacy policy for Calendly is available at https://calendly.com/pages/privacy. Recording of the interview will be uploaded and transcribed by Zoom services. The privacy policy for Zoom is available at https://zoom.us/privacy.
If you choose to leave your interview early or terminate your participation in the study, your existing interview data will promptly be deleted and your personally identifiable information will be deleted, as if you were not selected for being interviewed.
